The ins and outs of the ACA
The Affordable Care Act — sometimes called Obamacare — has been in the news a lot lately. Certain businesses will have to offer health plans by Jan. 1, 2015, or face a penalty. And all businesses are already subject to certain compliance rules right now.
What does all this mean for a self-employed rancher in the Black Hills or a small business owner in Rapid City, Spearfish or Williston? At Ketel Thorstenson LLP, we have tax accountants, tax professionals and accounting specialists right here in South Dakota and North Dakota who have been closely watching all of the twists and turns as the ACA drama unfolds in Washington.
To help business owners understand this new law, KT’s Nina Braun and Jennifer Konvalin have teamed up with attorney Kathleen Barrow of Jackson Lewis PC to present a brown-bag seminar on the ins and outs of the ACA.
There’s been a lot of interest – and apprehension – about the new law among employers in the Black Hills about the new law, Braun said, but there are tax advantages and tax strategies that can be effective in offering employee benefits and healthcare plans.
The next brown bag session is set for Wednesday, June 4, at KT’s Rapid City office, 810 Quincy St. The cost is $5, which includes the brown bag lunch. To register, call 342-5630 or send an email to [email protected].
