Due to his extensive experience in the private sector, Tom has a heightened sense of the level of reliability, competency, and communication skills needed to form a true partnership with clients. He can see the world from his clients’ perspective because he was on their side of the table for several years.
Tom has more than 30 years of experience in strategic planning and research for closely held businesses, including partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations. He also has extensive experience assisting high-net worth individuals, including representing high-profile individuals in the entertainment industry. Tom began his career at a “Big Four” firm on the West Coast where he practiced for several years. He also has extensive experience in the private sector serving as the top tax executive for an international consolidated group of companies.
Tom has been involved in numerous merger and acquisition transactions and was the key tax advisor in structuring a well-known entertainment client’s purchase of a sports franchise. In short, Tom is a creative and strategic tax planner who believes the strategy should be firmly in place well in advance of the reporting of the strategy on the tax return. Tom has also assisted businesses in expanding to foreign markets, as well as, assisted foreign owned ventures in navigating the U.S. tax landscape.

Personal
Tom has traveled extensively internationally and looks forward to future trips. While Tom moved to South Dakota to be closer to family, he was also motivated by the ability to photograph the amazing Black Hills and surrounding scenery. He enjoys exploring new walking paths through South Dakota Parks so he can watch the Bald Eagles fly and interact. He is active in his church, with the Boy Scouts of America, and always starts his day with a morning workout.
Tom is an avid reader of history including writers of ancient times. He also enjoys writing and has an unfinished novel in process. In college, he was employed as a speechwriter, with some of his work used by a state Governor and other key cabinet members.
Being active in Southern California as a young professional, Tom has many hilarious and unique stories involving well-known personalities including helping Tom Jones convince a new owner of a Fish and Chips restaurant that he was indeed Tom Jones so that Mr. Jones could get more tartar sauce, having Muhammad Ali show Tom his best magic trick, visiting a McDonald’s with a cast member of Gilligan’s Island and receiving a birthday present of being invited to Smokey Robinson’s house to hear Mr. Robinson sing songs from his first Gospel Album.
