Senior Manager Audit Department

Austin is a quintessential member of the firm’s audit department, responsible for assurance practices covering the hospitality, gaming, retail, and employee benefit plan industries. His responsibilities include assisting with new client acceptance and onboarding, overseeing review and audit services, and developing first-rate client relationships.

Since joining the firm in 2014, Austin has been essential in helping the firm double the size of their retirement plan audit practice. He is also responsible for the beginning of the firm’s hospitality niche group. Austin has assisted with various new accounting and auditing standards including revenue recognition and leases. One of his prouder moments while working at Ketel Thorstenson was leading the firm’s PPP Forgiveness Program team. He is also instrumental in the audit department’s staff recruiting and development.

In every engagement, Austin emphasizes putting himself in the client’s shoes. Audit services can often be unsettling, are sometimes difficult, and are always time-consuming. Austin and his team strive to ensure the process is as painless as possible. He works to educate clients in difficult accounting areas to ensure they have excellent understanding and learn new ways to improve their practices where possible. Above all else, Austin works to ensure that at the end of the engagement, things are done the right way.

Austin also enjoys playing morning basketball at the YMCA, fishing, golfing, and hiking in the Black Hills.

Austin has always thought of himself as having a ‘work hard, play hard’ demeanor; however, he is quickly finding out how the word ‘play’ changes once you have kids.
