Do you need new software to accommodate job costing?  While QuickBooks Online (QBO) is a user-friendly and convenient software that may be used from anywhere, it may not be the best option for your job costing needs.  As it currently stands, the software does not have a good setup for using true job costing record keeping.  While in QuickBooks desktop, you can link directly to the Customer and Job when inputting the vendor bill, the customer invoice, payroll, and deposits.  However, in QBO you have to use a slightly different method, as the only way to collectively track where the expenses are going is by using classes.  This typically is used more by businesses with different locations to track which location the funds are going to. In QuickBooks Online, this is the only way to track where the job costs are going.  Using classes for job costing may be a good option if QuickBooks Online appears to be the best choice for you. Keep in mind the bigger your company gets, the less accommodating this software will become.
